A: 5 My Teen is a program that is designed to help monitor your teen while driving, letting them know that the communities eyes will be watching to help keep them safe.
Q: How does 5 My Teen work?
A: Simply place a 5 My Teen bumper sticker on your teen's vehicle. If your teenager is seen speeding or perhaps driving recklessly by another motorist, a call can be placed to the number on the bumper sticker and an operator will then take all the pertinent information regarding the incident and e-mail the information to the parent, so that you can immediately follow up with your teen and correct their actions and keep them from becoming involved in an accident or getting a citation.
Q: Why does my son or daughter need My Teen?
A: The truth is statistics show that new drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident due to their inexperience. The information My Teen receives and forwards to parents is another way to have the means of open communication with your teenager. We also have learned that when teens know they are being watched, they drive differently.
Q: What if my son or daughter does not want the bumper sticker on their car?
A: First, let your teenager know how much you love them and the reason you’re putting this on their car is to keep them safe. We do know that teens drive differently when they know they are being watched. This is part of parenting called tough love, but we are lucky to have the technology available to help us keep our teenagers safe. Let your teen know that you will be fair when dealing with a report, because we all know that at one time or another we could probably be reported.
Q: What about false reports being made?
A: False reports are a possibility. MY TEEN LLC cannot determine if the report is false. We use caller i.d. and have the technology to record the call. If we see a specific number frequently popping up, we can block that number. We also make every effort to get as much information as possible (e.g. date, time, location, description of the driver, and, if possible,the name of the person reporting the incident – which helps with the validity). Then it is up to the parent to talk with the teen and determine whether or not the report is false.
Q: Will I receive a discount from my insurance?
A: Not at this time, but MY TEEN LLC is working very closely with several insurance companies who are very excited about the program and we look forward to the insurance companies rewarding parents and teens with reduced rates for responsible drivers.
Q: Does MY TEEN LLC offer a discount for more than one bumper sticker?
A: Yes, we do offer a discounted price for households with more than one teen driver.
Q: What if I buy a new car or sell my old one?
A: Please contact us via e-mail or phone so we can update all of your information. We do ask that you please remove the old sticker from your previous car and we will send you a replacement for your new car.
Q: How will I receive a report?
A: An e-mail will be sent to you or you can be contacted by phone if you wish.
Q: Why do I need a parent teen contract?
A: A parent teen contract lets the teen know that driving is a privilege, not a right. It is not about trust – it is about safety. It also informs the teen driver up front that there are rules and what is expected of them for their own safety.
